Set against an idyllic backdrop modeled after one of England’s oldest country inns, Five Crowns has remained an Orange County dining institution since 1965. Part of the Lawry’s family of restaurants, this dinner-only staple boasts an impressive variety of juicy steaks, mouthwatering seafood, and classic English fare paired with authentic, trademark hospitality. Guests can relish in multiple inviting dining spaces such as the sunlit greenhouse, stunning English garden, and cozy fireplace-lined interior complete with genuine antiques and period paintings.

Adjacent to Five Crowns is speakeasy-esque SideDoor, a separate operation within the restaurant that was revamped and reopened in 2009 as Corona del Mar’s first and only English-style gastropub. The menu features seasonal small plates, made-to-order cheese and charcuterie, and a top-tier selection of craft beers, spirits, and cocktails – set in a relaxed, inviting atmosphere that is perfect for gathering with loved ones old and new.

Both Five Crowns and SideDoor provide the perfect setting for private events of any occasion, with pre-set or bespoke menu options, and an outstanding events team to assist every step of the way. Five Crowns is seeking a passionate, experienced, and well-rounded General Manager to lead the team and oversee all operations for this iconic, beloved concept. Looking for an energetic, hands-on leader who is equally passionate about training & development, guest experience, and dialed in with numbers. Candidates should also have strong knowledge of wine and spirits in order to drive beverage sales. Someone who truly understands and can embody the ethos of the Lawry’s family of restaurants, while leading the team by example with an elegant floor presence and inviting, guest-facing personality. Experience in or familiarity with the Orange County market is highly preferred! This is a very special opportunity to lead a legacy restaurant and join an esteemed, independent hospitality group that places a very high value on employee retention. There is a clear path for this role to grow with the company within the first 1-2 years! 

General Manager Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and positively impact all areas of the business including: sales, costs, employee retention, guest service and satisfaction, food quality, cleanliness and sanitation
  • Develop/improve upon and implement operational strategies, policies, and procedures to increase consistency, efficiency, and quality of guest experience
  • Maintain a strong presence in the restaurant on a regular basis
  • Ensure quality and consistency of all products served
  • Ensure all equipment is kept clean and in excellent working condition
  • Maintain positive and cooperative relationships with all vendors and business partners
  • Work to standardize any manuals or forms that can better help streamline operations within the restaurant
  • Foster opportunities for the team to learn and grow
  • Continually strive to educate and develop of staff as it relates to food, beverage, and service
  • Creating a positive and fun working environment
  • Developing a positive relationship with guests
  • Taking ownership of the business to increase sales and profitability
  • Increasing brand awareness by creating marketing plans
  • Set an example to the team by providing excellent hospitality and service at all times
  • Anticipate the needs of the restaurant and act upon them
  • Stay up to date on industry trends, competition, and customer preferences to identify opportunities for innovation and improvement
  • Be knowledgeable of restaurant policies regarding personnel and deliver prompt, fair and consistent corrective action for any and all violations of company policies, rules and procedures
  • Fully understand and comply with all federal, state, county and municipal regulations that pertain to health, safety and labor requirements

General Manager Qualifications:

  • 4-5+ years’ experience as a Restaurant General Manager (GM), Multi-Unit General Manager, Food & Beverage (F&B) Director, FOH General Manager, Director of Outlets, Director of Restaurants, Service Director, or FOH Department Manager in a full-service, upscale, high-volume restaurant concept is required
  • Prior experience in or familiarity with the Orange County market is highly preferred
  • Proven experience driving operational growth and success
  • Ownership mindset and values and ability to take on a lot of responsibilities at once
  • Proven track record in leading/motivating a team and holding staff accountable to high standards
  • Ability to multi-task and switch directions accordingly
  • Strong knowledge of wine and spirits
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Highly organized with impeccable attention to detail
  • Resourceful and effective problem-solving skills
  • Ability to thrive in a high-pressure environment
  • Develop relationships with guests to create & maintain guest retention
  • Collaborative, hands-on, team player mentality
  • Process driven and able to implement operating procedures that will continue to maximize efficiency
  • Exceptional standards for cleanliness, health, and safety
  • Strong with numbers and experience in managing P&L
  • Flexible schedule, including weekends, and on holidays
  • Food Safety Certification
  • Able to stand/walk for long periods of time

Compensation Package Includes:
