Prominent, well-respected industry leaders are seeking a Culinary Instructor for a very exciting and essential new community program. The overall project goals are to provide foundational culinary skills for students to secure jobs and pursue meaningful careers within the Los Angeles restaurant and hospitality industry. Looking for a passionate, community-oriented individual to lead culinary arts instruction for the program, teach job readiness skills, and assist students in meal preparation for community members and non-profit partners. This is a Monday-Friday position that includes both classroom instruction and hands-on kitchen supervision.

Culinary Instructor Responsibilities:

  • Conduct hands-on culinary instruction based on classic cooking techniques
  • Develop lesson plans based on program curriculum (basic knife skills, food safety training and certification, essential stock & sauces, and basic meat butchery)
  • Administer written and practical tests
  • Work one-on-one with students to ensure comprehension of lessons and information
  • Oversee the various ordering, set-up, and cleanup needed for lessons and guest chef presentations
  • Guide students in the preparation of meals and products to be distributed to community members and program partners
  • Manage food and supplies budget for the program and maintain inventory
  • Teach students necessary job readiness skills to support with the goal of eventual long-term placement
  • Participate in, and support, special events including fundraisers and cooking demonstrations

Culinary Instructor Requirements:

  • 3-5 years of relevant industry experience at a chef level or higher (Chef de Cuisine, Executive Chef), with related management experience
  • Prior instructor or educational experience required
  • Culinary Arts degree and/or Associates Degree with culinary or hospitality focus (ICE, CCAP, etc.)
  • ServSafe Certified
  • A high degree of technical ability to relay information in a manner that provides a positive learning experience and instills a passion for the profession
  • Administrative and technology skills adequate to expand on course materials
  • Ability to demonstrate concern and sensitivity toward culinary trainees and their individual needs and learning styles
  • Passion for healthy cooking, nutrition education, and the Los Angeles community
